MURO AMI

MURO AMI

Muro Ami is a Filipino film that depicts one of the worst form of child labor in the illegal fishing system. Every year, the ruthless fisherman Fredo recruits about 200 children for his fishing ship, the “Aurora”. They are hired to help him catch 300 baskets of fish before Christmas, using the Muro Ami method. The illegal fishing is done by founding and crushing corals underwater to scare the fishes and drive them towards the nets. With a high quota to meet, Fredo forces the drivers, who consist mostly of children, to accomplish at least eight dives a day to meet their goal before the millennium.

Fredo is truly greedy because he doesn’t care for the children who help him working for his fishing ship. He really don’t care for the children who is getting sick because of working hard. The children has not given enough food each day that’s why most of them feel weak.

Dado, father of Fredo is a kind person. He is a considerate man. He always give signs to his son Fredo on what may happen. But then, Fredo doesn’t even listen to his father. He always do what he wants because he doesn’t even care for his father’s sayings.
